There are many methods for modifying epoxy resin. The traditional toughening method is to add tough polymers such as rubber elastomers or thermoplastic resins to epoxy resin to significantly improve the toughness of the composite material. However, , this method improves the toughness of epoxy resin but reduces the heat resistance to varying degrees. Therefore, people have been looking for new modification methods. In recent years, the emergence of nanomaterials and the development of nanotechnology have provided a new way for polymer modification. Inorganic nanomaterials have been increasingly used in polymer modification research due to their excellent heat resistance and dimensional stability. Nano-SiO2 is an amorphous white powder. There are a large number of unsaturated residual bonds and hydroxyl groups in different bonding states in its molecular structure. The molecular structure is a three-dimensional chain structure. This structure can bond with certain groups of the resin, thereby greatly improving the hardness and strength of the material. At the same time, due to their small size, nano-SiO2 particles will be distributed in the gaps of polymer bonds when compounded with resin in an appropriate manner, thus greatly improving the strength, toughness, and ductility of the polymer.
