Silicones for Typhoon Season

Hits: 368 img

As the year's first super typhoon approaches, coastal areas are bracing for impact. In the past, many households suffered from water seepage, damaged walls, or even loose windowpanes caused by the aging and cracking of window sealants during typhoons; however, during recent renovations, many older residential complexes have quietly adopted IOTA silicone sealants. Unlike ordinary sealants that harden and lose adhesion within months, IOTA silicone—thanks to its unique siloxane bond structure—maintains high elasticity and strong bonding even amidst fierce winds and torrential rain, effectively resisting wind-driven stress and water intrusion. A property manager at a residential building in Shanghai’s Hongkou District, which recently underwent window upgrades, noted the difference: "We used to use cheap sealant, and whenever the wind picked up, you could hear the 'hissing' sound of air leaking in. Now that we’ve switched to this 'soft armor,' the hallways stay completely dry." Originally developed for aerospace sealing applications, this material is making the leap from commercial curtain walls to ordinary homes, providing an invisible line of defense for household safety during extreme weather.
