Recently, with the surge in global sales of new energy vehicles, the problem of thermal runaway of power batteries has once again attracted attention. A domestic materials company has developed a high-temperature resistant coating technology based on polysilazane (PSZ), which can significantly improve the heat resistance and puncture resistance of lithium battery separators. The coating remains stable at a high temperature of 800°C, effectively blocking the contact between the positive and negative electrodes and reducing the risk of short circuits.
Polysilazane is also used for battery shell protection and extending battery life due to its excellent corrosion resistance and chemical inertness. Industry insiders pointed out that the technology has passed the tests of companies such as CATL and is expected to be mass-produced in 2024. Experts said that with the implementation of the new EU battery regulations, high-safety materials such as polysilazane are expected to become the new standard in the industry.
