Silicone Oil Innovation Redefines Waterproof Outdoor Gear Amid Extreme Weather

Hits: 531 img

The convergence of camping trends and extreme rainfall has fueled demand for stormproof equipment. Chinese outdoor brand Toread's new StormShield jackets employ silicone oil-modified nylon fabric, maintaining dryness for 4+ hours in heavy rain. The technology grafts siloxane chains onto fiber surfaces, achieving a 150° water contact angle while preserving breathability.

Japan's Toray Industries concurrently released a 25-micron Dermizax® membrane with silicone resin reinforcement, capable of withstanding 20,000mm water pressure. Tmall data shows a 380% surge in "silicone waterproofing" searches since May, with related outdoor product sales exceeding RMB 300 million. Material scientists predict the global silicone oil market for outdoor gear will grow at an 18.7% CAGR through 2026, driven by climate adaptation needs.
