Nano antibacterial coatings


Currently, the most mature nano antibacterial coatings are mainly nano TiO2 coatings. The antibacterial mechanism is to use the photocatalytic oxidation characteristics of nano TiO2 to produce highly reactive active oxygen and free radicals to kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms, thereby achieving an antibacterial effect. Xu Ruifen et al. dispersed the surface-treated nano TiO2 into a benzene-acrylic emulsion to prepare an antibacterial coating and tested the antibacterial effect. The results showed that the antibacterial coating had a killing rate of more than 99% against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, etc., and had a strong bactericidal effect and a lasting antibacterial effect.


Similarly, nano ZnO can decompose under light conditions to form electron-hole pairs, which combine with oxygen or water in the air to produce active oxygen and free radicals, which can kill most bacteria and viruses.
