3 Wear resistance
Wear resistance is one of the important application properties of ceramic coatings. Generally, it can be characterized by measuring the wear rate of the coating through a wear test. The wear resistance of nano-ceramic coatings is significantly better than that of conventional ceramic coatings, as shown in Figure 3.
4 Thermal conductivity
Thermal conductivity is the main performance indicator for characterizing ceramic coatings. Commonly used methods to determine the thermal conductivity of ceramic coatings include laser method and modulated wave method. Thermal conductivity decreases as the grain size decreases. This is mainly because as the grain size decreases, the microscopic interfaces inside the coating increase, the interface distance decreases, and the mean free path of phonons in the heat conduction process decreases. As the mean free path of phonons decreases, the thermal conductivity of the material also decreases, so the thermal insulation performance of nano ZrO2 ceramic coatings is better than that of ordinary micron ZrO2 coatings.
