Application in biomedical engineering


In the early 1980s, people began to use nanoparticles to achieve cell separation and established a new technology for cell separation using nano-SiO2 particles. This method mainly involves preparing nano-SiO2 particles (particle size 15~20nm), then coating their surface with a monolayer. The choice of the coating layer is mainly based on the type of cells to be separated, and then preparing a polyvinylpyrrolidone colloidal solution containing a variety of cells; then the nano-SiO2 coated particles are evenly separated into a polyvinylpyrrolidone colloidal solution containing a variety of cells; and then the required cells are separated by centrifugation technology using the density gradient principle. The advantage of this method is that it is easy to form a density gradient, which can achieve rapid separation of nano-SiO2 particles and cells, and nano-SiO2 particles generally do not react with colloidal solutions and biological solutions, nor do they contaminate biological cells.


Nano-SiO2 has high absorbency, dispersibility, and thickening properties, and has been widely used in pharmaceutical preparations. For example, adding a small amount of nano-SiO2 to drugs such as ranitidine, metronidazole, and pyrenespithecin can change their fluidity; adding a small amount of nano-SiO2 to griseofulvin can change its dissolution rate, that is, change the dispersibility and absorbability of poorly soluble drugs in water; adding a small amount of nano-SiO2 to aspirin-containing powder will change the antistatic property of the powder. In addition, in medical engineering, various nanoparticles can be injected into various parts of the human body to check and diagnose lesions and treat them. For example, nano-SiO2 particles can be used to locate lesions for treatment.
