Ultrasonic technology was used to successfully prepare blank epoxy coatings (EC) reinforced with different contents of nano (7nm) and micro (0.2-0.3μm) silica. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that nano and micro silica fillers were uniformly dispersed in the epoxy resin matrix, with a loading of 3wt.%. Infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies found that ultrasound can form permanent chemical bonds between epoxy resin and silica particles. Quantitative analysis of infrared spectroscopy showed that the participation of nano silica in the chemical bonding of epoxy resin was higher than that of micro silica.
Through comparative tests, the surface wettability, corrosion resistance, thermal stability and mechanical properties of steel plates coated with epoxy resin coatings and fumed silica-epoxy composite coatings were analyzed and evaluated.
The contact angle test was used to measure the contact angle of the coating samples modified with micro silica and the coating samples modified with nano silica. The study showed that the coating modified with nano silica had better hydrophobicity.
