New Energy Vehicle Battery Pack Upgrade: Silicone Rubber Seals Tackle High-Temperature Fire Risks

Hits: 452 img

Addressing the surge in summer NEV fire incidents, CATL, in collaboration with materials firms, has developed a high-temperature resistant liquid silicone rubber (LSR) sealing system. This material maintains elasticity at 200°C (392°F), effectively sealing battery modules against moisture ingress and preventing thermal runaway. Tests show battery packs with the new seals exhibited leakage rates as low as 0.01% after 50°C (122°F) high-temperature cycling. The technology is now deployed in vehicles from BYD, NIO, and other brands, helping electric vehicles weather the summer safely.
