With summer power demand repeatedly hitting record highs, State Grid is piloting polysilazane ceramic protective coatings on transmission lines in East China. When lines face lightning strikes or short circuits, the coating transforms into a ceramic insulator at 1200°C (2192°F), tripling the flame-retardant time compared to conventional materials. Originating from aerospace ablation-resistant technology, this domestically mass-produced solution now safeguards over 2000 km of backbone power grids in the Yangtze River Delta, reducing failure rates by 45% year-on-year.
